The time of year when getting a new winter jacket is on a lot of people’s minds is here. It is possible that this year’s winter will be just as chilly as last year, and the early snow in October supported that possibility as well.  So if you are without a good winter jacket, then you are certainly not ready to take on the winter chill that is just around the corner.

How do you determine the type of winter coat you will need?  Well, there are a few factors that you should consider for this.  First things first, you will need to figure out how cold it is in your area on average.  After you know the average temperature, find out the average precipitation for the winter in your area too.  Windy winter weather is another factor to think about, and you should take into consideration your own body heat.

Once you have determined those factors, you can then look at different textile technologies that are designed to handle them all.  There are textiles for wicking away moisture, wind breaking fabrics that limit the winds interference, and even breathable options that keep those with higher body temperatures comfortable and warm without causing anyone to sweat.  To help you out even more, you can use the infographic below.

If you’re going to lunch with some friends or meeting your boyfriends’ parents for brunch and need a look that’s both casual and stylish, try pairing your blazer with a colorful fitted tee and your favorite print scarf.  With this style, you can cover up your chest to keep it conservative without losing your personality and flair.  Don’t be afraid to mix and match your wardrobe.  Pairing jeans with a blazer or, say, a jean jacket with a pair of brown slacks can help you maximize your clothing potential and show off the great cut of your jackets.  But for this particular look, I would not recommend wearing a heavy knit scarf with your blazer since it could make your upper half seem too bulky in combination with your jacket.

If you want a more glamorous nighttime vibe from your blazer, match it with a mini skirt and your highest heels to create an ultra chic appeal.  Tuck a sparkling tank top into your skirt, throw your blazer on top and add some flashy earrings and you’re ready for the hottest club in town!  The best about this nighttime ensemble is that if you start dancing and getting way too hot, you can strip off your jacket and you still have a fierce outfit to keep on partying.  On the other hand, this look can be great if you are self-conscious about showing too much skin because your arms are covered while you get a chance to show off those gorgeous legs.

Need a new outfit to wear out on a date this weekend?  Try mixing leggings, a glitzy tank, high heel boots and your trusty blazer! The Cape Jacket.  Let go of structure with a flowey cape jacket.  This jacket breaks some traditional rules and adds whimsy and romance to any outfit.  There are more casual styles and then there are others that are a bit more formal.  The light brown Dipped Nouget coat has the cape winged sleeves and a longer length than typical cape jackets.  The black cape coat in the middle has a formal feel, while the YMC cape jacket in navy is more laid back.

The Trench.  Always a classic staple for any wardrobe, the trench coat is in full force this winter.  One trench coat can serve for many uses.  Dress up a trench with a little black dress and some heels, or go casual with some skinny jeans and flats.  Every women should definitely have a trench in their closet.  The black classic trench is from Ann Taylor, the middle tan is a   less expensive version of the beautiful Burberry coat following.

The Pea Coat.  Another fashion must have is a well-fitting wool pea coat.  My pea coat is my go-to jacket for all occasions.  With denim, trouser, skirts, and dresses, pea coats do the trick.  It is probable that all designers make their own version of this classic piece, so you can find it at most major department stores and more.

Maybe it is a bit silly, but I can’t help it.  I am just in such a good mood (chilly weather has that affect on me).  Since I am loving on my coat today, maybe you should do some loving too.  Tell me, what is your favorite thing about one of your favorite coats?  I know there has got to be something that just makes you happy when you think about pulling your jackets out of the back of your closet.  Maybe writing a sweet poem is just what you need to do to overcome some at-work boredom.  So, let’s here it.

Some of this year’s fashion jackets will remind men and women of a certain age of the 1980s, when shoulder pads were sewn into almost ever item of women’s clothing. The jackets and coats will play their usual roles on runways around the world, shown in a fantastic embroidery that at times resembles pale clam shells and flowers.   The embroidery combined with slight, shoulder-paddish accents give at once a highly feminine look to the jackets, while also affording them a strength.

Fur on the other hand lends a softness to shorter women’s wraps and jackets, making them more versatile this year than they have been in years past.  Fur adds a soft touch to this falls more serious lines in skirts, pants, and blouses.  Most women can wear this look with good effect, but if you plan to really carry it off, make sure no one from PETA is within a 25 mile radius when you go out in public with it.  This is just a reasonable safety precaution.  You should probably also avoid this fall’s hot bags and accessories that are made of leather when they are around, too.
